Universal Pictures have announced the UK Blu-ray Disc release of It’s A Wonderful Life on 2nd November 2009. This classic directed by Frank Capra and starring James Stewart comes to Blu-ray with the following features:
  • Black & White Original and Colour versions
  • 1080P 1.33:1 Full Screen
  • English DD2.0 Mono
  • English SDH subtitles
  • Theatrical Trailer
  • Trivia Tracker
  • Picture Comparison

There will also be a new DVD release that also includes both the original and colour versions of the film. There are no extras on the DVD.

For a movie that was at one time in public domain (as the studio had forgotten to renew rights in due time), there are lots of ™ and ® in the artwork.

I just hope this will be the same HD transfer that Paramount are putting out in the US (sounds like it is). Finally, Universal may do right by this film for UK home video! Whoo! For years we've had sub-par reissue after reissue from a dodgy tape master whilst the US got a sparkling restored version 3 years ago (and the previous Republic transfer wasn't bad either)!
This'll look stunning in HD and whilst I am no fan of the colourised version, it's actually quite well done in this instance and as an extra is harmless enough. If they'd released only that instead of the original B&W however they'd be hell to pay! :D
