NOTE: The HD DVD Promotion Group has refuted this information on their web site. The statement reads, "The inclusion in the January 29 update of our "Coming Soon List" of three Steven Spielberg classics was an error on our part. The HD DVD Promotion Group expresses sincere apologies to Steven Spielberg, Universal Studios Home Entertainment and HD DVD fans for this mistake. We will endeavor to prevent any similar mistake and to provide accurate information". The original news post follows below.

The HD DVD Promotion Group has once again updated their official Release List and have added several high-profile titles from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.
  • E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
  • Jaws
  • Jurassic Park
  • Meet The Fockers
  • Psycho
  • Scarface (1983)
  • Shaun Of The Dead
  • Slap Shot
  • Smokin Aces
  • The Big Lebowski
  • The Return
  • The Shining (1980)
Each of the titles is currently listed as having an undecided release date. However, a film's appearance in the Promotion Group's listing has, in the past, given HD DVD owners a reliable indicator of what to expect.

In the case of "E.T.", this June will mark the 25th anniversary of the film's release, so a DVD re-release and HD DVD release around this time could be a potential successful marketing move for Universal.

I'd be very surprised if ET,Jaws and JP get released this year. Perhaps 1 but even that's unlikely. Universal would want maximum installed base before releasing them so they'll either wait or they don't think HD DVD sales have peaked

Some very impressive titles there. I would definitely buy seven or eight of them.
I hope E.T. will be the orginal version or that there is at least a choice.

It would be nice to see some NEW content on some of these re-releases over their standard def variants to even consider a purchase.

If Spielberg's attitude to HD DVD is anything like his attitude to DVD (and I'm guessing it is), we won't be seeing his titles on HD for several years.

Fingers crossed! Hope they have some IME capability built in. Even if only one of the Spielberg titles hits the shelves this year it'll be a real boost for HD.
